Doesn’t Everyone Use Local Anesthetic?
I recently was talking with another prostate cancer survivor and he told me a story about several men who had undergone needle biopsies of the prostate without local anesthetic.
I was shocked that this type of procedure was done without anesthetic, but it instantly explained the difference between my experience (I had two such procedures, but both with local anesthetic. In both cases, I watched the procedure on an ultrasound machine) and that of others.
How You Can Help Other Men
Let’s get the word out to men that with local anesthetic,
the needle biopsy procedure isn’t really an issue at all.
I stopped at the Madison, WI state capitol last week on Tour de USA 2010 for prostate cancer awareness and made this very point with a police officer who was just entering the diagnostic phase at age 46.
